What's the best version of a song you've ever heard in a language other than English? I have to go with the version of "Wind Beneath My Wings" I heard at a Chinese restaurant.

a prophecy fulfilled [07 Mar 2005|07:12am]

[ mood | bored ]

Many years ago, a woman who claimed to be a prophet of God told me something. She said that someday in the future, I would meet someone that would change the world. She later went on to say that this person would be a rising star in the world of indie music and would become well-known and betray me.

I had no clue what she was talking about.

Fast forward to 2002, I meet a strange young man named Conor Oberst who's got a pretty successful band called BRIGHT EYES.

CONOR tells me that he was really a goat, which was why his music is fucking terrible and he can't sing.

"How can I play guitar with these hooves!!" he bleated angrily, "I can't even believe I'm speaking English!!".

He continued to bitch and moan for a few minutes. I told him that he should accept who he is and learn to live with it.

He thanked me and went on his way.

Now, in 2005, BRIGHT EYES is almost a household name. CONOR appeared at my door the other day, claiming he was a Messenger of Death. He was chewing on an old tennis shoe and holding his guitar in his gnarled hoof.

"BAAAAH ABHAAAAHHH I HATE LIFE I'M SO CYNICAL" he bleated.

He then did something I did NOT expect.

He shot me.

He shot me right in the face.

I was rusehd to the hospital where I underwent surgery. My face was partially reconstructed, but now I am more of a monster than a man.

The woman I was to marry gouged her eyes out and ran away, falling into an open sewer. My friends and family have abandoned me.

My life is ruined.

Conor, you will pay.

Yeah so this is semi-serious.

It seems that since the Pixies have reunited other important bands from the past have done the same recently, like Slint and Gang of Four.

I dont know if they're motivated by money, what, but it's pretty neat.

My question is: What bands would you like to see reunited and go back on the road?

I ask this here and not in the other community because they are all faggots who would choose some shitty band like Led Zeppelin or something.

ok bye

To prove my indie credibility, and announce to the world my godlike musical allusion status, I've compiled a list of the best bands you've never heard of. Yes, I am that cool. I am sure that after you do a web search and/or download some MP3s, you will thank me for my amazing taste in music and my edumacative abilities. Doubtlessly, you'll want to send me money. Alas, I am too humble for your gratitude. Mere appreciation is all the thanks I need.

And now for the main event.

THE BEST BANDS YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF!

1) Disco Inferno
2) Theoretical Girls
3) In the Nursery
4) Section 25
5) The K-Tels
6) Altered Images
7) Lake of Vampire
8) GoGoGo Airheart
9) Bush Tetras
10) The Raging Tyrannosaurus of Despair

Listen to them. Worship them. Then come back to me and tell me I am the greatest.

If you are actually old, how do you think your life would be different if you had the internet when you were in high school or college? I'm kind of glad my thoughts were not posted on the internet for posterity, because a lot of them were pretty silly in retrospect.

I did not have the internet until I was a junior in college, and not many people used it then. I believe finestdrops and I had accounts on the same local isp at the time, and very simple websites that were largely a joke...
